Northville Now

Northville, MI Community

Got unused toys gathering dust at home? Why not swap them for something your kids will actually play with? The NDL Toy Swap on January 18 is your chance to trade up—literally! Drop off your gently used toys beforehand and return to “shop” for free.

How It Works

The concept is simple yet brilliant. From January 13 through January 17, families can drop off up to five gently used toys at the NDL Info Desk. Each toy earns you one ticket, which acts as your currency for the main event on Saturday. On January 18, bring your tickets back to the library and “shop” the available toys from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. It’s a win-win: declutter your home while scoring new treasures for your little ones—all without spending a dime.

But don’t wait too long! The swap is only open for an hour, so punctuality is key if you want the best picks. And if any toys are left behind after the event? They’ll be donated to local organizations, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Why You Should Join

This isn’t just about toys—it’s about community. The Toy Swap brings together Northville residents (and maybe some neighbors from nearby towns) in a shared effort to reduce waste and promote sustainability. Plus, it’s a great way to teach kids about reusing and sharing. Instead of tossing out perfectly good toys, you give them a second life with another family.

And let’s be honest—kids’ interests change faster than Michigan weather. That once-beloved fire truck or dollhouse might be collecting dust in your basement now, but it could be another child’s new favorite thing. The Toy Swap is the perfect excuse to clean out those forgotten playthings while discovering something fresh.

What to Know Before You Go

  • Toy Condition: Only toys in good working condition will be accepted. No broken parts or missing pieces—this isn’t a garage sale!
  • Limit: Each household can drop off up to five toys.
  • Tickets: You’ll receive one ticket per toy dropped off, so choose wisely.
  • Drop-Off Dates: January 13–17 at the NDL Info Desk.
  • Event Day: Be at the library on January 18 by 10:30 AM sharp with your tickets in hand.

Who Will Love This Event?

  • Parents: If you’re tired of tripping over toys your kids no longer play with, this event is practically designed for you.
  • Kids: They’ll love “shopping” for new toys—especially when they realize they don’t have to wait until their birthday or holidays.
  • Eco-Conscious Folks: If reducing waste is your thing, this event aligns perfectly with your values.
  • Bargain Hunters: Free toys? Say no more.

It’s All Happening in Downtown Northville

The Northville District Library is located right in the heart of downtown Northville, Michigan, at 212 W Cady St. This charming location makes it easy to turn your toy-swapping adventure into a full day out. After the event, why not explore some of Northville’s cozy cafes or unique shops? Whether you’re grabbing a coffee or enjoying lunch with the family, there’s plenty to do nearby.

Why It Matters

Events like the NDL Toy Swap are more than just fun—they’re impactful. By participating, you’re helping reduce landfill waste and supporting a culture of reuse in your community. It’s also a reminder that one person’s clutter can be another person’s treasure. Whether you leave with armfuls of new-to-you goodies or simply enjoy the satisfaction of decluttering, everyone wins.

So dig through those toy bins and closets—it’s time to give those forgotten treasures a chance at a second life.
